Police in Mtwapa, Kilifi Sub-County, have arrested a suspect believed to be part of a three-man group linked to a spate of robberies and thefts in the busy Biashara Street area.
The arrest followed a tip-off from members of the public who raised concerns over a series of violent incidents in the area.
“Officers from Mtwapa Police Station conducted a sting operation, where they intercepted and arrested one suspect,” the National Police Service (NPS) said in a statement on their official X account.
A search of the suspect led to the recovery of a backpack containing several items believed to be connected to recent criminal activities.
Among the recovered items were three smartphones suspected to have been stolen, seven and a half large rolls of cannabis, a kitchen knife, and a taser device.
The suspect is being held at Mtwapa Police Station and is expected to be arraigned in court upon completion of investigations.
Police said the recovered items are being preserved as exhibits.
Efforts to apprehend the remaining two suspects are ongoing.
“Police are following crucial leads and are in pursuit of the two remaining suspects,” NPS added.
In a separate incident on January 14, 2025, police in Kisauni Sub-County, Mombasa, arrested four individuals suspected of involvement in attacks on residents.
The officers also recovered weapons during the operation.
The arrests came after reports of an attack on two people heading to Kongowea market. Officers on foot patrol traced the suspects to the Kadongo area.
When ordered to surrender, the suspects reportedly resisted and allegedly assaulted the officers.
Police said they responded with gunfire, injuring one suspect on the left foot.
