Police have arrested a suspect in Nairobi, and recovered stolen electronic devices in an intelligence-led operation conducted on July 10, 2025.
Officers from Utalii Police Station stormed the suspect’s
residence, which also serves as an electronics repair workshop, following
credible information from members of the public.
“The suspect was placed in custody,
awaiting arraignment in court as investigations continue,” Police officer said.
During the raid, police recovered 72 mobile phones, two laptops,
one Universal Flashing Interface (UFI), a Pandora device, a camera, two
external hard drives, and a CPU.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that 32 of the mobile
phones have already been positively identified by M-KOPA Company as items
stolen from their customers.
The remaining electronics have been secured as exhibits pending
further identification by rightful owners.
The suspect was taken into custody and is awaiting arraignment as
investigations continue to determine the full scope of his operations and any
possible accomplices.
In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) applauded
members of the public for providing vital information that led to the
breakthrough, calling it a win for community policing.
“The National Police
Service commends members of the public for the information that led to the
arrest and recovery, and encourages them to continue working closely with law
enforcement officers by volunteering information in line with the spirit of
community policing.,” said the NPS.
This comes a day after Security
officers in Kagio, Kirinyaga County, arrested nine suspects and recovered
assorted looted property following a targeted operation.
The intelligence-led operation was conducted
across various estates in Kagio town and its outskirts, after a report was
filed at Kagio Police Station.
The arrest comes amid a surge in electronic thefts in informal
settlements across Nairobi, with police stepping up efforts to dismantle networks
involved in the resale and modification of stolen devices.
