Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has praised President William Ruto as Kenya’s most effective tourism ambassador, crediting his leadership with revitalising a key pillar of the national economy.
Miano lauded Ruto's strategic policies and international engagements, saying they have significantly boosted Kenya’s profile on the global tourism map.
"President Ruto has become Kenya’s greatest tourism ambassador,” she said during an interview with a local TV station.
According to the CS, Ruto's leadership, global visibility, and unwavering support for the sector have firmly positioned Kenya as a top travel destination.
She noted that the President has consistently used global platforms to promote Kenya, highlighting its unique offerings, from its identity as the cradle of humankind to its diverse natural and cultural heritage.
Miano stressed that inter-ministerial collaboration has accelerated tourism reforms.
The Ministry of Transport, for instance, she said, is upgrading airports to world-class standards, while the Ministry of Tourism continues to strengthen key initiatives, including the Tourist Police Unit.
At the county level, Miano commended the President’s commitment to unlocking local tourism potential, especially in Nyandarua County, which she previously described as “Kenya’s California,” due to its scenic Aberdare Ranges and rich colonial heritage.
"The President’s attention to regions like Nyandarua has created new opportunities for communities and elevated local tourism,” she said.
This, she noted, aligns with the Ministry’s broader push for community-based tourism, which empowers locals to benefit from the tourism value chain.
Beyond visibility, Miano highlighted substantial increases in government investment under Ruto’s administration, including enhanced tourism infrastructure, digital marketing campaigns, and incentives for private-sector participation.
In 2024, Kenya recorded a historic Sh450 billion in tourism revenue, and the country is targeting 5 million international visitors by 2027.
“From championing Kenya at global expos to personally welcoming visitors, President Ruto has set a new standard in tourism leadership,” Miano added.
“His visible, vocal, and visionary role is driving real results.”
She added that the future of Kenya’s tourism lies in the synergy between strong political will and empowered communities.
