Naivasha detectives have arrested a 30-year-old nanny accused of murdering her employer and burying the body in a shallow grave behind the family’s home.

The nanny was apprehended in connection with the death of Jane Wambui Njoroge, a nurse at Naivasha Sub-County Hospital who had been reported missing on July 4.

According to police, Wambui’s husband raised the alarm after she failed to return home from work.

He reported her disappearance to local authorities, prompting a search and investigations that later focused on the nanny.

Detectives said they tracked down the nanny and placed her under interrogation.

During questioning, she allegedly confessed and led officers to the Karai home where the grim discovery was made.

“She led us to the victim’s home in Karai, where she revealed the horrifying scene,” investigators said.

The decomposing body of Wambui was found buried in a shallow grave behind the house.

Public health officers joined the operation to exhume the body, which was found with pieces of clothing tightly wrapped around her neck.

Officers said the body had begun decomposing but was identifiable.

“With the assistance of public health officers, the body was exhumed,” they said.

The nanny remains in police custody as detectives work to complete investigations before she is arraigned in court.

The murder has sent shockwaves across the Karai area, where Wambui was known as a dedicated health worker and neighbour.

Police have assured residents that investigations are ongoing and urged calm as they handle the case.

The nanny is expected to face murder charges once investigations are finalised.
