Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has announced that he will embark on his planned tour of the United States today, July 9.
Gachagua, who was addressing the press in Nairobi, stated that the trip is fully packed and will see him engage Kenyans among other groups in the country.
“Tonight, I will be travelling to the US to talk to Kenyans in the diaspora and the international community about the state of the nation,” he said.
It will be the first foreign trip since he was ousted from office.
The DCP leader revealed the plan last month, noting he will tour several cities in the two-month tour.
He is set to visit Dallas, California, Seattle, Boston, and Baltimore.
During the trip, Gachagua will hold several town hall meetings and attend social gatherings to promote his agenda for the diaspora community.
The former DP is also expected to interact with selected American business people and investors as part of a broader campaign to position the opposition as a viable alternative in the run-up to the 2027 general election.
Insiders revealed that Gachagua is scheduled to hold meetings with investors who are reportedly interested in partnering with the opposition ahead of the polls.
He, however, raised concerns about what he termed as plans by the government to block him from travelling out.
Gachagua is a key figure in the opposition coalition, which includes Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua, DAP-K boss Eugene Wamalwa, and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.
His tour comes just days after Matiang’i took his 2027 presidential bid to the international stage, beginning a series of diaspora engagements with a town hall meeting in Texas, USA
