Governor Guyo’s impeachment trial begins in the Senate
The Senate will embark on a two-day marathon session that shall either uphold or dismiss Isiolo Abdi Guyo’s impeachment.
Guyo is facing three broad charges: gross violation of the Constitution and other laws, abuse of office, and gross misconduct. It only requires the confirmation of one charge by a vote by the majority of Senators for him to lose his seat.
On Tuesday, the Senate clerk will read the charges before the governor is invited to plead guilty or not guilty. Following this, both sides may present preliminary objections.
Guyo, who started his political career as a Nairobi MCA, made history as the first ward representative to rise to the governor's office.
He was also the only governor elected under the Jubilee Party in 2022.
