The Kenya Meteorological Department has said there will be continued rainfall and low nighttime temperatures in several parts of the country, even as other regions prepare for hotter days.
According to the latest forecast released on Monday, rain is expected over the Central Highlands including Nairobi, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, Western Kenya and parts of North-western Kenya.
The rains are likely to be accompanied by isolated storms in some areas and may vary in intensity from light showers to heavy downpours.
The Met Department has also stated that cold and cloudy conditions are likely to persist over the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the South-eastern lowlands and sections of the Rift Valley.
Night-time temperatures are expected to drop below 10°C in the Central Highlands including Nairobi, the Central Rift Valley and areas near Mt Kilimanjaro.
Residents in these regions have been urged to prepare for chilly nights.
In contrast, areas in North-eastern and North-western Kenya will experience daytime temperatures soaring above 30°C.
These regions are expected to remain generally hot during the day, with the possibility of drier conditions.
Kenya Met has also issued an advisory of strong winds.
Southerly to south-easterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.86 meters per second) are expected to affect several regions, including the Coast, Kenya’s territorial waters, South-eastern lowlands, and parts of North-eastern and North-western Kenya.
How to keep warm during cold weather
To stay warm during the cold weather, one can heat their home, if possible. This is by use of heaters or furnaces.
Make sure your heating is safe and your house or workplace is properly ventilated, to reduce the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
It is also advisable to wear warm clothes, including sweater, trench coats, socks, scarfs, gloves and warm shoes. Clothes made of fleece or wool are advisable.
At night, use extra duvets or blankets.
Additionally, eating well can keep you warm. Remember to take warm drinks.
