
Police have been deployed in strategic areas in Eldoret city where many businesses remain shut due to the anticipated Saba Saba protests.
Hundreds of police have been sent to areas which witnessed extensive protests during the Gen Z protests.
The security teams are patrolling several areas including Huruma, Kipkaren, Kamkunji and Maili Nne estates where the recent protests were intense.
Uasin Gishu County police commander Benjamin Mwanthi has assured residents of tight security to ensure the usual flow of business.
“We urge everyone to keep peace so that daily activities can go on,” said Mwanthi.
He, however, said his officers were on high alert to intervene and ensure security is maintained in the region.
Several businesses which usually open up early remain shut with guards deployed, especially within the city CBD.

One trader, Paul Kiptoo, who operates a mobile phone shop, said they feared for their safety and would monitor the situation before opening up.
“We hope the situation will remain calm and that the will be no destructive protests like last time,” said Kiptoo.
Some schools in the town failed to resume Monday classes as parents kept their children at home fearing for their safety.
Sources indicated that security teams from other parts of the region had been brought to Eldoret to beet up security in the region.
