Detectives are pursuing a gang that
stabbed and killed a Kenya Defence Forces soldier in Lanet area, Nakuru County.
The soldier identified as Sergeant
Hezron Change, attached to the Kenya Military Academy, was attacked on July 4 as he did his morning jog in the area.
He was attacked as he jogged from his
residence in Posta area in what officials believe was an attempted robbery.
He might have tried to resist the
robbery, police said.
Police said he was
accosted by two assailants riding on a motorcycle, who stabbed him with a sharp
object on his left shoulder and also inflicted a deep cut injury on his left
eye.
They also robbed him
of his mobile phone leaving him on the ground bleeding in the 5 am incident.
A Good Samaritan
assisted the victim to the Kenya Military Academy gate where other soldiers
returning from the morning run found him lying unconscious in a trench.
Upon close
inspection, they identified him as their colleague and immediately escorted him
to the Lanet Regional Hospital for treatment.
He succumbed to his
injuries hours later, police and military officials said.
The body was moved
to War Memorial Hospital Nairobi for preservation and postmortem.
A team of detectives is pursuing the attackers.
Meanwhile, three
suspects were lynched in separate incidents reported in the war on crime.
In Busia Town, two
suspects were lynched by a mob in what was termed a failed robbery.
The suspects are
said to have robbed a rider of his motorcycle prompting him to raise an alarm
that alerted a mob.
The motorcycle had a
tracking device that helped other riders to join in the hunt and intercepted it
in Korinda area.
The two men who were riding on it were attacked and killed separately.
This is after one of them
managed to escape the scene and was later trailed to a hideout in Busia Town.
In Nyamarambe, Kisii
County, a suspect was also lynched and his body was set on fire along
Ikoba-Nyakembene Road.
The suspect was
accused of trying to steal chicken from a home in the area.
An alarm was raised
alerting locals who responded and caught up with the deceased lynching him.
The bodies were
moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.
Cases of mob
lynching have been on the rise amid calls on the public to surrender suspects
to authorities for action.
Police say some of the suspects are framed up and lynched which they term as criminal.
