At least eight people were killed and several others seriously injured on Thursday and Friday in separate road accidents reported in Makueni, Kisii, Kajiado, Nairobi, and Uasin Gishu counties.

In one of the worst incidents, a multi-vehicle collision involving seven vehicles along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway at Mulima Kiu area in Makueni County left three people dead and more than ten others injured.

The Friday evening crash occurred around 5 p.m. when a Mercedes-Benz Axor truck heading towards Mombasa veered into the oncoming lane, colliding with several vehicles, including a public service Toyota matatu, a Toyota Probox, and other trucks and cars.

Police identified the deceased as 46-year-old Nthiani Daudi, who was in a Toyota Vitz, 8-year-old Gift Musyoka Musembi, who was in the truck that caused the accident, and an unidentified male adult who was a passenger in the Toyota matatu.

Several others suffered serious injuries.

Four passengers in the matatu, including Benter Odicho (27), Evans Kimilu (23), Silvester Ngindu (30), and Irine Wayua (28), were rushed to Sultan Sub-County Hospital.

Five other individuals in a different matatu sustained minor injuries. The bodies of the deceased were taken to the same hospital mortuary.

In Kisii County, one woman died and six passengers were injured in a single-vehicle accident along the Kisii-Oyugis road near the Riverside area on Thursday.

The matatu reportedly developed a mechanical problem before veering off the road and landing in a ditch.

Pauline Migosi, 32, died on the spot due to head injuries. The driver, Charles Momanyi, sustained injuries to the head and leg and was admitted to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Other injured passengers were taken to various hospitals for treatment. The vehicle was towed to the Nyanchwa police yard for inspection.

In Kajiado County, a handcart pusher died after being hit by a Toyota Hiace on Friday at around 5:30am in the Chap Chap area along Magadi Road.

The unidentified victim was taken to Jamii Private Hospital while bleeding but succumbed during first aid. His body was moved to Saitoti Sub-County Hospital morgue as police seek to establish his identity.

Meanwhile, in Nairobi's Industrial Area, a 30-year-old boda boda rider, Julias Obiso Abisa, died in a head-on collision with an Isuzu NQR truck near Road A Junction.

The incident occurred around 7:30am on Friday. The truck driver fled the scene. Abisa was rushed to Luben Healthcare Centre but was pronounced dead on arrival. His body was moved to City Mortuary.

Elsewhere, a hit‑and‑run crash in the early hours of Friday claimed the life of an unidentified pedestrian on Juja Road near the Shell petrol station in Pangani.

Police say the victim was attempting to cross the roadway at about 3:30 a.m. when an unknown vehicle, travelling from an undetermined direction, struck him and fled the scene.

Officers from Pangani Police Station visited the site, documented the evidence and moved the body to the City Mortuary.

Investigators have opened a file under cause code68 and are appealing for eyewitnesses or motorists with dashboard camera footage to come forward.

In Uasin Gishu County, police confirmed the identity of a man who died in a road accident involving a motorcycle earlier in the week. The victim, identified as 29-year-old Simon Mwaura, was identified by his father, Petro Kinyanjui Mwaura. His body remains at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital awaiting post-mortem.

All the cases are under active investigation as police urge motorists to exercise caution and obey traffic regulations to prevent further loss of life.
