
A night guard was hacked to death
outside a church in the Juakali area of Kakamega County.
Police say the victim, identified as
Pius Ngwete, 55, may have been targeted for reasons unrelated to his work.
His body was discovered on the
evening of July 1 lying outside Maraba SDA Church, where he worked. It had deep
cuts on the head.
Nothing was stolen from the church,
leaving the motive of the killing unclear. Police visited the scene and moved
the body to the mortuary for an autopsy and further investigations.
No arrest has been made so far.
Elsewhere in Nyaramba, Nyamira
County, a 16-year-old boy died after falling from a tree he had climbed to
trim. The incident happened on July 1.
According to police, the boy was
about 20 meters high when he slipped and fell headfirst, dying on the spot. His
body was taken to the mortuary pending post-mortem.
In another incident in Chiakariga,
Tharaka Nithi County, a man died after consuming suspected poisonous honey. A
second man who also took the honey is admitted to hospital.
Police said they have opened investigations
to determine how the honey was laced with poison.
Meanwhile, in Kamukunji, Uasin Gishu
County, a suspect who had been arrested died in hospital after complaining of
chest pains.
The man had been arrested in
connection with the theft of cattle. He reportedly fell ill while in custody
and was rushed to the hospital, where he died.
The Independent Policing Oversight
Authority (IPOA) was notified to investigate the matter. Police clarified that
the man died in hospital, not in the cells.
All bodies have been moved to
mortuaries awaiting autopsies as investigations continue.
