Activist Boniface Mwangi has condemned blogger Ndiang’ui Kinyagia following revelations that, though previously believed to have been abducted, he had in fact gone into hiding.

Mwangi described Ndiang’ui’s actions as “wrong and criminal,” accusing him and his family of misleading the nation.

“An entire country was fighting for his release, and praying for his safety, thinking he was abducted, but all this time he was in hiding! Shame on him, and his family,” Mwangi said.

He expressed outrage over the incident that sparked national concern.

His statement comes shortly after lawyer Wahome Thuku said the blogger had contacted his family and confirmed he is alive and safe.

In the statement issued Thursday morning, the lawyer said Kinyagia reached out to a family member on Tuesday evening from an undisclosed location.

He assured his loved ones that he was in good health and had gone into hiding for fear of his life after learning that officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) were looking for him over unspecified allegations.

“Mr Ndiangui indicated to the family member that he had hidden temporarily for fear of his life upon learning that DCI officers were looking for him over unknown criminal allegations,” Thuku said.

The blogger reportedly expressed readiness to present himself to the DCI and appear before a court of law, but only after his safety is guaranteed.

“He is ready and willing to present himself to the DCI and to be presented before any court of law when his safety and security is guaranteed,” Thuku added.

Kinyagia presented himself before the High Court at Milimani Law Courts on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at 11 am.

DCI boss Mohamed Amin was expected to appear before High Court Judge Chacha Mwita to respond to questions on Ndiang'ui's case.
