Nominated Member of the Nyandarua county assembly, Beth Wahito, was laid to rest on Tuesday, July 1, amid heartfelt tributes and emotional scenes.

The burial ceremony took place at her home in Karuang’i Village, Njabini, in Kinangop, Nyandarua county.

Wahito, a seasoned public servant, tragically lost her life in a road accident along the Nairobi–Nakuru highway on the night of Saturday, June 21.

The accident occurred at around 11 pm as she travelled home from a budget committee meeting in Naivasha.

Her funeral drew numerous mourners, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who hailed her as a dedicated leader committed to the progress and welfare of her people.

Tears flowed freely as Gachagua joined family and friends to bid farewell to Beth.

“Her commitment and passion leave a lasting legacy in Nyandarua. I extend my heartfelt sympathies to the county leadership and the people of Nyandarua during this difficult time. May the Almighty God rest her soul in eternal peace and perpetual light shine upon her forever,” Gachagua wrote on X.

Tourism Cabinet Secretary, Rebecca Miano, who visited the bereaved family on Monday, also paid tribute to Wahito’s enduring legacy.

“Today, my heart was heavy as I visited the grieving family of our dearly departed Hon. Beth Wahito to condole with them and join in prayer,” she said.

“In this moment of great loss, I call upon our community to come together and give Hon Beth Wahito a dignified and honourable send-off, a farewell that reflects her lifelong commitment to serving the people and her unwavering leadership.”

She further pledged to honour Wahito’s memory by launching a community-focused initiative: “To keep her legacy alive, I will work closely with her family, the community, and grassroots leadership to unveil an initiative that will uplift our people and stand as a lasting tribute to her selfless service and dedication.”

Wahito’s political journey spanned over three decades.

She held key positions across various political outfits, including the Democratic Party, NARC-Kenya — where she served as the county chairperson — and most recently, as Kinangop coordinator for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Her untimely demise is a significant loss to the political fraternity and the broader Nyandarua community she diligently served throughout her life.
