President William Ruto and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron hold talks on bilateral cooperation in Spain on July 1, 2025/PCS
President William Ruto has reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to strengthening its long-standing diplomatic ties with France.
Speaking after a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in Seville, Spain, Ruto said France remains one of Kenya’s closest allies, with decades of cooperation between the two nations.
“Kenya is committed to nurturing this relationship to deepen bilateral cooperation and promote even closer collaboration,” Ruto stated.
The two leaders also discussed shared priorities at the multilateral level, including the need for reform of the international financial system.
Macron, according to Ruto, reaffirmed his support for joint efforts through global frameworks such as the Pact for Prosperity, People, and Planet, an initiative co-chaired by Kenya and France.
Ruto noted that the two countries will build on this momentum at the upcoming France-Africa Summit, scheduled to take place in Nairobi in 2026.
President Ruto is in Spain for a Pact for Prosperity, People and Planet high-level meeting, co-chaired with President Emmanuel Macron at the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development.
In the meeting, the President explained that the Pact for Prosperity, People and Planet, commonly known as the 4P, is meant to address the unfairness of the international financial system
He noted that the deal seeks to find financing solutions for developing countries whose progress has been hindered by the current global financial system.
Ruto expressed satisfaction that there is now common ground between the Global North and the Global South on the need for the reform of multilateral financial institutions.
"We have 73 countries that have joined us. We are not discussing narratives, and we are not pointing fingers. This is not about South vs North; this is about solutions that work for all countries,” he said.
Ruto further commended the pact for advancing reforms that integrate development and climate action into a unified and coherent agenda.
