Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro’s father, Mzee Gedion Baya Mung’aro, burial date has been scheduled for June 25, 2025.

The cortege will leave Kilifi County Hospital Funeral Home on June 24, 2025, for a service and night vigil at his home grounds in Dabaso.

He will later be laid to rest at his home in Dabaso village in Watamu.

Mzee Mung'aro died on June 15, 2025, while receiving treatment at the Kilifi County Hospital.

Mzee Mung’aro was a husband to Beatrice Bahati, late Joyce Kanze Kombe, Janer Kofedha Darris Bahati and Loyce Kache.

He was the father of His Excellency Gideon Maitha Mung'aro, Governor of Kilifi County Government, late Furaha, Masha, Clement, Kadange, Kazungu, Santa, Garama, Masha Bogo, James, Masha Yellow, James, Masha BK Karisa, John, the late Josephine, Caroline Tabu, Brenda Nyevu.

His other children are Aneline Salama, the late Sidi, Priscilla, Teresia Kaschana, Everlyne, Lydis Neema, Mercyline Karembo, Celestine Riziki, Grace Rehema, Frida, Elizabeth, the late Sheina, Clara and Penina Zosi.

The Governor announced the sad news in an emotional statement on social media, which recounted the highs and lows of their life together.

“Today, on Father’s Day, I have lost my father, Gideon Baya Mung’aro Senior,” Mung’aro said.

Mung'aro further expressed his gratitude to friends and family for the steady support during this difficult time, even as he acknowledged the pain of losing his father.

Several leaders sent messages of condolence to Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro following the death of his father, Mzee Gideon Mung’aro.

Mombasa Governor Abdullswamad Sherrif Nassir extended his condolences to Governor Mung’aro's family, saying the county government and the people of Mombasa are in solidarity with them.

Similarly, Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga extended her condolences to the Mung’aro family, saying:

“I extend my deepest condolences to Governor Mung’aro and the family, on behalf of the people of Homa Bay County and my own.”

The Mining and Blue Economy Cabinet Secretary, Hassan Joho, also conveyed his sympathies.

“It is with profound sadness that I have received the heartbreaking news of the passing of Mzee Gideon Baya Mung’aro Senior. Please know that my heart is with you during this difficult time of mourning,” Joho stated.
