The East African Law Society (EALS) has moved its 30th Annual Conference and General Meeting to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The event was initially to be held in Zanzibar but was changed due to the upcoming general elections in the Republic of Tanzania, scheduled to be held around the same period.
According to a communiqué from EALS president Ramadhan Abubakar, this necessitated a reconsideration.
Abubakar said the Governing Council of the East African Law Society (EALS) has been deliberating on the best ways to give attendees the most memorable experience.
“After careful deliberation and in the absence of firm guarantees to delegates who will be attending the event, the EALS governing council in its meeting on June 16, 2025, considered alternative venues for the 30th EALS Annual Conference and General Meeting,” Abubakar said.
“Arising from that meeting, we are pleased to announce that the EALS Annual Conference and General Meeting will be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia,”
The communiqué also noted that hosting the event in Ethiopia not only marks EALS’s growing continental reach but also coincides with the recent inclusion of the Ethiopian Federal Advocates Association (EFAA) into EALS membership.
EALS brings together over eight hundred lawyers, corporate counsels, and policymakers from all corners of East Africa and beyond.
EALS has stood as the flagship event of East Africa's legal profession—a platform where ideas converge, partnerships are forged, and the vision of legal excellence across the region is redefined.
This year's theme is centred on reflection, celebration, and recommitment.
EALS has evolved into the continent’s most vibrant regional bar, with over 45,000 members since its establishment in 1995.
This year's EALS celebration is not merely a commemoration of longevity; it is a recognition of three decades of promoting the rule of law, regional integration, and the legal profession.
