Police officers in Wajir County have arrested four Ethiopian nationals
suspected of being in Kenya illegally and in transit to an unknown destination.
According to a police report from Wajir Police
Station, the arrest took place on June 16, 2025, at around 3:30 a.m. following
a tip-off from members of the public about suspicious individuals hiding in a
deserted house in Barwaqo location, Wajir Township.
Officers raided the premises and arrested the
four suspects. Upon interrogation, they failed to produce valid documents
permitting their stay in the country.
They were taken to Wajir Police Station and
held in custody. The suspects were scheduled to appear before the Wajir Law Courts
on the same day.
The matter is being treated as a case of
illegal immigration.
Police have confirmed that operations
targeting undocumented immigrants in the region are ongoing.
Authorities have urged residents to continue
sharing information to support efforts against cross-border crimes and enhance
national security.
According to a recent report, the government
spends approximately Sh2 billion annually to process undocumented migrants
through the criminal justice system and repatriate them.
The Kenya Immigration Act outlines that anyone
seeking entry into the country must obtain a visitor’s pass, valid for up to
six months, for purposes such as tourism, business, or other approved temporary
stays.
