President William Ruto will be the chief guest during the 20th anniversary of the Regional Centre on Small Arms and Light Weapons (RECSA).

During the event, the president will oversee the destruction exercise of illicit small arms and light weapons.

The event marks a significant milestone in Kenya’s efforts to promote peace and security in the region, in line with its commitments under RECSA.

It will be held at the National Police Leadership Academy in Ngong, Kajiado County.

RECSA is an inter-governmental organisation with a mandate of coordinating the implementation of the Nairobi Protocol on the Prevention, Control and Reduction of small arms and light weapons in the Great Lakes Region, the Horn of Africa and Bordering States.

There are 15 RECSA member states in the Great Lakes Region and the Horn of Africa signatories to the Nairobi Declaration and Nairobi Protocol.

These are Burundi, Central Africa Republic, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Uganda and Tanzania.

President William Ruto will later officiate the graduation ceremony of the Diploma in Public Administration Class of 2025 at the Kenya School of Government, Lower Kabete Campus.

The event celebrates the achievements of public servants who have completed their training and capacity-building programme.
