A Nairobi court has issued a warrant of arrest against activist Boniface Mwangi after he failed to appear for plea-taking in an assault case.
Mwangi was expected in court on Thursday to respond to charges related to an alleged assault incident but did not show up.
The prosecution informed the court of his absence, prompting the magistrate to issue the warrant.
According to a charge sheet seen by the Star, the activist is accused of willfully and unlawfully assaulting Osman Omar, a police officer who was executing his duties.
The police allege that he used abusive words towards Osman Omar with intent to provoke a breach of the peace.
The alleged incident occurred on April 2, 2025, at the Metropolitan Court in Kilimani, within Dagoretti Sub-County, Nairobi.
In a separate count, Mwangi is also charged with willfully and unlawfully assaulting Robert Oyola on the same day and location.
The charge states that the officer was carrying out his official duties when the alleged assault occurred, resulting in actual bodily harm.
"On April 2, 2025, at the same location, Mwangi willfully and unlawfully assaulted No. 87673 PC Robert Oyola, a police officer performing his duties, occasioning him actual bodily harm," the charge sheet read.
The court has directed that the matter be mentioned on July 14, 2025.
