Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen is expected to appear before the Senate to respond to questions over the death of Albert Ojwang.

Senate speaker Amason Kingi invited him to appear before the plenary after senators raised questions regarding the circumstances that led to the death while in police custody.

Before the planned plenary session, Kingi said the CS will be interrogated by the committee of the whole House on the matter. Questions have been prepared.

Also scheduled to appear alongside him are Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) chairperson Issack Hassan.

APRA conference

The annual conference and 50th anniversary of the African Public Relations Association (APRA), which commenced on Monday, enters its third day today in Mombasa.

It was officially opened on Tuesday by ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo.

The conference, which runs until June 13, 2025, is themed ‘Transforming Africa Through Safe And Responsible Digital Communication’.

It seeks to highlight the role of ethical digital communication in fostering trust, transparency and sustainable growth across the continent.

The gathering shall also provide a platform for networking, knowledge sharing and discussions on the latest trends, challenges and opportunities in public relations and strategic communication.

Opening of the 16th Technical Advisory Committee

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen is set to open the 16th Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) meeting of the Regional Centre on Small Arms and Light Weapons (RECSA).

TAC meeting brings together principal secretaries, inspector generals and technical experts from RECSA member states to deliberate on strategies to combat the proliferation of small arms and light weapons in the region.

It will be held at the Safari Park Hotel.

Nairobi City-owned air quality monitoring network

Nairobi City County will today, June 11, unveil its first-ever city-owned air quality monitoring network.

The launch at Nairobi City Hall will mark a major step in combating air pollution.

Governor Johnson Arthur Sakaja will preside over the flagging-off ceremony.

Fifty new city-owned air quality sensors are now operational. These sensors will track pollution hotspots. They will inform policies and protect public health. This will be done through data-driven interventions.

Air pollution caused approximately 2,500 premature deaths in Nairobi in 2019.
