Mumias East MP and 2027 presidential hopeful Peter Salasya is set to hold a grand homecoming ceremony in Kakamega on Saturday, June 7, 2025.
The MP, who has been traversing the country to popularise his 2027 presidential bid, will conclude his nationwide tour with the major event in the Western Kenya town.
Over the past month, Salasya has ramped up his meet-the-people tours to promote his ambition to challenge President William Ruto in the next general election.
During the tour, he was arrested on hate speech allegations and arraigned in court, as the government intensified its crackdown on incitement.
In a statement shared on his Instagram account on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, the youthful legislator said he would be received in Kakamega on June 7.
"On Saturday, 7; I miss Kakamega, I miss Shianda, I miss Mumias, and I miss Western Kenya. The son of the soil has traversed the terrain, bending twigs and figs across the country, and he is ready to unravel the belief beyond," Salasya stated.
His tours have drawn mixed reactions from Kenyans, with some questioning the source of funds used to finance his nationwide campaign that has taken him as far as Meru and Kwale counties.
Addressing the concerns via Instagram on Saturday, May 31, 2025, Salasya denied receiving funding from any external party. He maintained that he is financing the trips using his salary as an MP.
"For those asking where I get the money to traverse Kenya like a village—I have no children in international schools or a family to take on expensive vacations because I’m not married, haha… so my money doesn’t have many responsibilities," he wrote.
Earlier this month, on May 10, Salasya also dismissed claims that he is a political project of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
He insisted that he is not being funded by the state to carry out his countrywide familiarisation tours.
A section of Kenyans online has expressed scepticism over how the MP manages to finance his travels, noting that he has previously shared his payslip publicly, which shows a modest net income.
Salasya’s homecoming is expected to attract thousands of supporters from across Western Kenya, especially from Shianda, Mumias, and the greater Kakamega County.
His return marks the end of an ambitious political journey that saw him visit diverse regions, including Eastern, Mt. Kenya, Rift Valley, Coast, and parts of the Maasai heartland such as Narok and Kajiado.
He launched his nationwide tour on May 1, 2025, in Busia County.
