Police officers today rescued two individuals from mob violence and took them into custody in the Embakasi area of Nairobi.
This followed a report from members of the public alleging that a group of nine individuals were involved in the theft of vehicle batteries from lorries parked behind City Cabanas.
Responding promptly to the report, officers arrived at the scene and intervened, rescuing two men from a group of boda boda riders.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the individuals in question, along with others who fled the scene, allegedly threatened a lorry driver before taking a battery from his vehicle.
During the operation, officers recovered a vehicle battery, two motorcycles, and several crude weapons suspected to have been used in the incident.
The two individuals were taken to the hospital for treatment. Investigations are ongoing.
In a separate incident reported on May 30 last year, officers from Laare Police Station in Igembe North Sub-County, Meru County, rescued a 25-year-old man from mob violence in the KK Etama area.
According to police, they responded to a distress call from members of the public and rescued the individual, who was reportedly linked to a group suspected of criminal activities in the area.
During the operation, officers recovered an AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine at the residence of another individual.
Another person was also taken into custody for further questioning in connection with the case.
In a statement, the National Police Service reiterated its commitment to combating crime and safeguarding the public.
The NPS commended the swift response of officers, noting that their intervention prevented further violence and led to the arrest of individuals suspected of involvement in criminal acts.
The service further emphasised the importance of community vigilance and cooperation in maintaining public safety.
