The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar, has arrived in Kenya for a three-day state visit, marking a historic moment in bilateral relations between the two nations.

She was received at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by Kenya's Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, alongside Environment Cabinet Secretary Deborah Barasa.

This is the first-ever visit by a Slovenian Head of State to Kenya and coincides with the 21st anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries, which were established in 2004.

Musar’s itinerary includes a bilateral meeting with Kenyan President William Ruto.

Their discussions will center on strengthening economic and development cooperation, enhancing regional peace and security, and advancing multilateral engagement. Key focus areas will include climate change mitigation, sustainable development financing, and reforms within the United Nations system.

She will also serve as the guest of honour at Madaraka Day celebrations in Homa Bay County on June 1.

The holiday commemorates Kenya’s attainment of internal self-rule in 1963 and is marked by ceremonies, cultural displays, and public addresses.

As part of her development-oriented agenda, Musar will visit Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) to officially launch The Conduit, a state-of-the-art Climate Intelligence Hub.

The facility is a collaborative project between JHUB Africa and Slovenia’s SPACE-SI (Centre of Excellence for Space Sciences and Technologies), aimed at fostering innovative, youth-led solutions in climate action, smart agriculture, and digital technologies.

JHUB Africa, based at JKUAT, plays a pivotal role in linking academic research with scalable solutions that address Africa’s pressing socio-economic challenges.

This high-level visit follows the recent accreditation of Maurice Makoloo as Kenya's first ambassador to Slovenia, operating out of Vienna, Austria.

It also builds on diplomatic momentum from Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon’s visit to Kenya in November 2024, during which discussions were held on upgrading bilateral dialogue and potentially establishing a non-residential Slovenian diplomatic mission in Kenya.

Fajon and Mudavadi proposed the launch of formal political consultations between the two countries in early 2025, signalling a new chapter of strategic engagement between Nairobi and Ljubljana.

Musar’s visit is expected to open new pathways for collaboration in climate science, education, and innovation, while reinforcing shared commitments to multilateralism and sustainable development.
