DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa has affirmed that the opposition will stand united and front a single candidate to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 general election.

Addressing opposition supporters at Kalonzo Musyoka’s Tseikuru home on Thursday, May 29, 2025, Wamalwa said the opposition will remain firm against any attempts to divide them.

At the same time, he urged senior opposition leaders to stay focused and committed to the shared goal of winning the 2027 election.

He warned that there would be several attempts by detractors to split the opposition.

“We have more than 10 political parties represented here in Tseikuru today, and we are affirming our unity—we shall not be divided,” Wamalwa said.

“We promise you one thing—we shall replay the 2002 journey, when the opposition united and rallied behind Mwai Kibaki.”

The former Defence Minister added that the opposition leaders must be ready to sacrifice personal ambitions in favour of fielding a joint candidate to take on President Ruto.

“We shall walk the 2002 journey again, and I urge our leaders: if we are to succeed like Kibaki did, we must be selfless,” he said.

Wamalwa also appealed to ODM leader Raila Odinga to consider returning the favour and supporting Kalonzo, whom he said has stood by him since 2013.

"Even as you support President Ruto, remember, Raila—you owe Kalonzo a debt of gratitude because he stood with you,” he said.

DAP-K Deputy Party Leader Wafula Wamunyinyi echoed Wamalwa’s sentiments, calling on opposition leaders to remain united and resist any attempts at division ahead of the 2027 polls.

“Let’s stand united. If we do, we’ll be able to sit down and support a single candidate to face President Ruto in 2027,” Wamunyinyi said.

The leaders spoke during a high-level opposition gathering hosted by Kalonzo Musyoka at his rural Tseikuru home in what was widely seen as a public display of unity ahead of the next general election.
