Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss Mohamed Amin has dismissed claims by Juja MP George Koimburi that he was abducted, branding the entire incident as 'orchestrated drama intended to stir public fear and avoid arrest'.

Addressing the press on Wednesday at the DCI Headquarters, Amin termed the abduction allegations as an “inconceivable” thing.

“It is quite inconceivable for an Honourable Member of Parliament to go to that extent of estate management, his own abduction, creating a lot of tension and fear in the country,” Amin said.

The DCI claimed that a thorough probe had traced the MP’s every movement on the day of the alleged abduction.

According to Amin, investigators accounted for Koimburi's whereabouts from the moment he attended church to the specific hotel and room where he spent the night.

“We were able to account for all his movements from the time he attended the church up to where he slept that night,” Amin claimed.

“We have even identified the hotel and the room number that he slept.”

However, the DCI withheld the details, citing the need to avoid prejudicing ongoing investigations.

“But definitely, we are going to share that information with him,” DCI added.

Amin criticised efforts to block investigators from accessing the MP, whom they strongly believe did not sustain any harm.

“It is unfortunate that being a victim, the investigating team were denied access to go and interview the Honourable Member of Parliament, which we believe he did not suffer any injuries whatsoever,” Amin said.

“And perhaps he could as well be staying at the Karen Hospital enjoying his five-course meal,” he scoffed, dismissing claims of suffering.

According to the DCI, the motive behind the alleged abduction could be twofold.

First, the MP was allegedly aware that he was under investigation for two offences.

“One is a matter of land farm that we investigated, and the file was forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), and he had approved sanction. And the Member of Parliament knew very well that he was to be arrested and prosecuted,” Amin claimed.

Secondly, the DCI opined that the act was politically motivated.

“We are also reading an element of politics to try to cause fear and anxiety in the country,” Amin claimed.

“So we are reading a political motive in the entire drama. So it is all drama, ladies and gentlemen.”

The DCI maintained that the investigation continues and will proceed to its logical conclusion.

Koimburi reportedly resurfaced on May 26, hours after he was allegedly kidnapped while leaving a church event on Sunday, May 25.

On Monday, a video began circulating online, allegedly showing the MP in distress, abandoned in a farm in Juja.
