The governor is making roadside stopovers to talk to his supporters en route to Kitale.
The governor was joined by Roots Party leader George Wajackoyah when he arrived in Kakamega Town, with the two leaders riding in the same vehicle as they made a sweep through the streets.
Unlike two days earlier, there was no incident in Kakamega, where DCP deputy party leader Cleophas Malala was teargassed on May 24, 2025, as he attempted to hold a homecoming rally.
Natembeya’s motorcade made several stopovers in towns across Western Kenya as he headed home to Kitale, following his recent arrest and arraignment.
Addressing a mini-rally in Kakamega, Natembeya urged the Western region to remain united and fight for its rights.
“It can’t be that a community with so many educated people still struggles to secure government jobs. It is unfortunate that when they are recruiting police, others arrive in lorries while we are carried in wheelbarrows,” Natembeya said.
“They have destroyed Mumias and Nzoia and want to silence us. But they won’t. The Constitution protects me. I am now a general and a commando—with soldiers.”
Earlier in the day, Governor Natembeya landed at Kisumu International Airport, kicking off a packed itinerary of roadside rallies and public stopovers.
“Governor Natembeya lands at Kisumu International Airport ahead of his much-anticipated prayer meeting and homecoming scheduled to take place in Kitale, with stopovers in Vihiga, Kakamega, Bungoma, and Kitale,” the DAP-K party posted on its X page on Monday.
He was received by several county MCAs and supporters. Reports indicate that his final rally in Kitale is expected to focus on unity, spiritual reflection, and community development.
Rallying residents through his Tawe Movement, Natembeya addressed crowds in Luanda, Chavakali, and Kakamega. He is also expected in Webuye, Bungoma, Chwele, Kimilili, Kamukuywa, and Kiminini.
The governor is scheduled to arrive in Kitale later in the afternoon, where he will headline a major homecoming rally—his first public appearance in the town since his legal troubles began.
Natembeya was charged on May 20, 2025, and pleaded not guilty to all the corruption charges. He was released on a Sh 500,000 cash bail and barred from accessing his office for 60 days.
A member of the DAP-K party led by former Cabinet Minister Eugene Wamalwa, Natembeya became the second high-ranking party official to be arrested within a week.
While addressing residents in Luanda on his way to Kitale, Natembeya rallied his supporters behind the Tawe Movement, saying it seeks to end poverty, unemployment, and hunger in the region.
He is expected to be joined by a host of opposition leaders in Kitale as he makes his first major appearance in his home county since the court case began.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, May 24, 2025, police lobbed teargas to disperse supporters of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s DCP party during a rally in Kakamega Town.
