X down as users in several countries experience outage

Social media platform X (formerly Twitter) experienced an outage on Saturday, as users across several countries reported issues.

The platform has, however, issued a statement on what could be the cause.

In Kenya, some users started experiencing issues at a few minutes past 3 pm, and since then, the platform has been on and off.

A report by CNN, cited Downdetector.com, which tracks internet disruptions, as having detected more than 25,000 users in the United States had reported issues.

The report further said that another 11,000 users from the United Kingdom have also reported the outage.

According to X Developer, a page dedicated to giving updates on any new developments on the platform, there are users who began experiencing issues with the platform as on Thursday, May 22, 2025.

X said it was experiencing a data centre outage, an issue that was being fixed.

“X is aware some of our users are experiencing performance issues on the platform today. We are experiencing a data center outage, and the team is actively working to remediate the issue.”

In another update on Saturday morning, X Engineering, the platform is still experiencing some issues especially those related to logging in, signing up and premium services.

“We're still experiencing issues from yesterday's data center outage. Login and signup services are unavailable for some users, and there may be delays in notifications and Premium features. Our team is working 24/7 to resolve this. Thanks for your patience—updates soon,” Engineering said.
