In Summary

    In courts

The hearing of the case where televangelist David Ngari alias Gakuyo is charged with Sh1.3 billion fraud resumes today at the Milimani Chief Magistrate's court.

The case failed to proceed on Tuesday, May 20, after the court was informed that a key witness who was scheduled to testify was attending a workshop in Mombasa.

The hearing was adjourned to today, May 21, to allow the prosecution to prepare for the other two witnesses lined up to give their testimonies.

Gakuyo was in February 2024 charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and 12 counts of obtaining money by false pretence.

He denied all the charges and was granted Sh100 million bail with an alternative bond of Sh200 million with two contact persons.

Milimani senior principal magistrate Ben Mark Ekhubi had also directed Gakuyo to deposit his passport in court and not interfere with investigations during the pendency of the case.

The charge sheet showed that Gakuyo allegedly conspired to steal Sh1,052,746.094 from Ekeza Sacco members between 2015 and 2018.

Kebs managing director Bernard Njiraini's case

The hearing of a case where former Kebs managing director Bernard Njiraini was charged with theft of condemned sugar worth Sh200 million will proceed today.

Njiraini was in May 2023 charged alongside seven others with conspiracy to steal a condemned consignment.

Njiraini, suspended KRA officials Joseph Kaguru and Derrick Kago were charged together with Peter Mwangi, Chrispus Waithaka, Mohammed Ali, Abdi Yusuf and Pollyanne Njeri.

They were accused of conspiring to steal condemned brown sugar valued at Sh20,064,000 that was intended to be used as raw material for the distillation of industrial ethanol.

They have all denied the charges and are out on Sh400,000 bail each.
