Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has unveiled new interim officials of his new Democracy for Citizens Party(DCP) as part of his roadmap to the 2027 general election.
Speaking while unveiling the name of the party on May 15, 2025, Gachagua said the names have been submitted to the Registrar of Political Parties for ratification.
Among those named in the party are former UDA and
Jubilee heavyweights, including ex-UDA secretary general Cleophas Malala, who was
named deputy party leader.
Tellingly, none of the current elected leaders were named to any leadership position in the new DCP party, as Gachagua made a big step in his 2027 political plans.
Former Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi was named as the interim National Organising Secretary, while former Starehe MP will chair the caucus of eminent persons.
Former Laikipia Woman representative Catherine Waruguru was named as the national women leader, while David Mingati from Kajiado will be the national chairperson.
Others are:
Peter Mwathi – Deputy chairperson, Strategy (Kiambu)
Margaret Sarah Owino –Deputy chairperson, operations (Kisumu)
Hezron Obanga –Interim Secretary General (Kisii)
Martin Kamwaro- Deputy Secretary General (Narok)
Anne Mutua –National Treasurer, Machakos)
Wambiru Njoka - Deputy Treasurer, Strategy
Thomas Mwita – Deputy National Treasurer (Operations)
DCP also unveiled
a set of rallying songs featuring sensational lyrics aimed at galvanising
support in his political battle against President William Ruto.
Two songs—one in Kiswahili and another in English—carry themes of liberating Kenyans, redeeming the payslip, listening to citizens, and expanding democratic space.
DCP, whose slogan is Skiza Wakenya (Listen to Kenyans), is being launched in Lavington, Nairobi, on May 15, 2025, as Gachagua’s 2027 political ambitions take shape.
In one of the Kiswahili songs, the lyrics call on Kenyans to rise, unite, and fight against economic oppression and punitive policies:
“Komboa payslip, Okoa Wakenya, Unganisha Kenya!”
“Skiza Wakenya! Waongo waende kabisa! DCP ni mwamko
mpya, utaboresha afya na itaokoa payslip!”
In stark contrast to the 2021 launch of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), which featured Christian songs to convey its message, Gachagua’s DCP is blending secular and gospel music, focusing heavily on issues directly affecting Kenyans.
Another chant from the rally went:
“Uongozi wa kuaminika, tunaskiza Wakenya! DCP inaunganisha Wakenya wote na ni chama cha Wakenya wote!”
And in a more lyrical moment, another song had supporters singing:
“Maisha yangu ni wewe, hata kama sina pesa, maisha yangu ni wewe yawe!”
