The Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) has announced the temporary closure of a section of the Ngong–Suswa Road to allow for major construction works.
In a public notice issued on Wednesday, the affected section lies between Km 0+000 (Matonyok) and Km 2+600 (Junction to KIBHT).
The stretch from Km 1+400 (Ngere Road Junction) to Km 2+600 (Junction to KIBHT) will be closed from May 12 to 20.
The segment from Km 0+000 (Matonyok) to Km 1+400 (Ngere Road Junction) will remain closed from May 12 to June 11, 2025.
“This closure is necessary to allow the Contractor to carry out major construction Works under constrained site conditions,” read the notice.
KeRRA noted that previously used temporary diversions had proven inadequate and posed safety concerns, especially during the rainy season.
Motorists have been urged to use an alternative route via Lemiso Road, Maragara Road, and Kibiko.
The Authority has also advised drivers to adhere to guidance from traffic marshals and police.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and appreciate your cooperation as we work to improve this vital infrastructure,” read the notice.
Road closures happen for a variety of reasons, primarily related to safety, maintenance, and emergencies.
Construction projects, weather-related hazards, public events, and accidents are among the most common causes.
On April 16, the Kenya National Highways Authority announced a temporary 3-month closure of the Katani Road junction along Mombasa Road to allow the installation of fabricated footbridge beams.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of Mombasa Road (A8) near Katani Road Junction will experience traffic disruption along the Mombasa bound lanes from Saturday, 19th April, 2025 at 10.00 pm to Sunday, 20th July, 2025 at 6.00 am,” said the notice.
To ensure free movement of traffic, the transport agency urged to follow the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site.
