Deputy President Kithure Kindiki said he is keenly following up on every project funded by the government across the country to ensure faster completion for the benefit of area citizens.

Kindiki said all development projects will be completed on time to boost the nation’s economy, saying it is within his mandate to keep a close eye on all ongoing development initiatives.

Speaking on Saturday in Kirinyaga Central, Kirinyaga county, during an empowerment forum for 40 women groups, the Deputy President said he is working hard to assist President William Ruto to deliver the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.

“My work is to assist the President to serve wananchi and ensure projects initiated are completed on time. If there are issues delaying them, I will do everything possible to deal with them,” the DP promised.

He said the government has revived stalled roads in Kirinyaga county on top of funding many modern markets that will provide a conducive trading environment for small-scale traders.

On empowerment, Kindiki said the government is committed to supporting mama mboga and boda boda operators to enable them expand their businesses and Saccos.

“We will not wait for the electioneering period to support boda boda operators or mama mbogas and those at the bottom. We will support them always because they are critical to the growth of our nation. We want to take them along now as we rebuild the economy,” he assured.

With the agricultural reforms picking up, the DP said it is not time to drop the ball but to intensify implementation of reforms to raise further earnings.

When the Kenya Kwanza dministration took over in 2022, farmers were receiving Sh50 per kg of cherry but comprehensive government efforts have seen it go up significantly to above Sh120 and Sh140 in some areas.

“Coffee earnings have gone up for the first time in years because of far-reaching reforms in the sub-sector. We are working harder to take it up to Sh200. When coffee is well paying, it will boost the economic status of thousands of families depending on it,” Kindiki said.

The DP said cartels in the coffee subsector that contributed to low pay have been kicked out and now every operator is issued with one license.

“We have dealt with cartels and issued one license per every actor in the value chain to avoid duplication of roles,” he said.

Further, Kindiki said tea prices have also gone up as the government looks to raise earnings to over Sh100 per kg.
