

The Rotary Club of Ngong Hills (RCNH), has awarded 15 students full scholarships for their secondary education during an award ceremony held at Embul-bul Secondary School.
RNCH has collaborated with three schools in Kajiado North subcounty: Oloolua, Embul-bul and Kerarapon secondary schools for a scholarship programme to support gifted students from underprivileged backgrounds.
RCNH is a group of goodwill individual who work together with an aim of ensuring a sustainable and lasting change in society.
“The best way to support the future generation is by ensuring they access education for a better future tomorrow,” said Killian Nyambu, director membership.
Out of over a thousand students who applied for the scholarship, 15 deserving students were successful after a rigid criteria of selection.
“Beneficiaries were carefully selected based on academic merit, financial need and potential to positively impact their communities,” said Lilian Ngina, the immediate former president RCNH.
Speaking during the ceremony, Irene Wachira, the education director RCNH, noted that the scholarship will benefit students who are currently in Form 2 and they will walk with them until they finish their form four.
She emphasised that good performance and discipline was a key requirement for the beneficiaries and failure to adherence may lead to being dropped from the scholarship.
She also added that report forms are to presented every term.
Jesinta Mukei, 20, is a beneficiary of the RCNH programme in the year 2020-23 covering her secondary education at Oloolua Secondary School.
“I'm grateful to the RCNH family for the supporting me with my education, it is more than just financial help as I will also improve in my performance as I will get enough time to study without being sent home,” she exclaimed.
Similarly, Jane Muremi, director of education, Kajiado North, extended her gratitude to RCNH team for the scholarship in the area.
She further added that the programme will enhance a promising future for the beneficiaries and the Kajiado North subcounty at large.
Salome Muthoni, a beneficiary extended her gratitude to the RCNH for coming in to help with his son’s school fees, adding that it’s a big load off her shoulders as she will now channel the money to his siblings.
Apart from the scholarship programme, RCNH is involved with community projects such as tree planting, career counselling, mentorship and book donations under the education program.
The club called for partners, donors and well-wishers to join hands in sustaining the noble cause and expand the reach of scholarships programme in the coming years.
