President William Ruto received the UEFA Champions League trophy in State House on Friday, marking an iconic moment for the country's football history by bringing the prestigious European club competition closer to the fans in the region.
The return of the trophy was facilitated through the Heineken UEFA Champions League Trophy Tour, stirring nostalgic feelings and pride, especially for those who witnessed its last visit when it was presented to the late President Mwai Kibaki in 2012.
The trophy was accompanied by German football legend Bastian Schweinsteiger, a 2013 Champions League winner with Bayern Munich.
President Ruto at the same time sent a passionate message of support to Arsenal Football Club ahead of their crucial semi-final clash against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), expressing optimism that they can secure a spot in the finals.
“As has been said, I am a supporter of Arsenal, and I hope they overturn the one-nil loss to PSG this week when they meet in Paris next Wednesday and advance to the finals to hopefully lift this trophy,” Ruto said.
