Kalro announces mass auction of vehicles, lab equipment from May 5

The auction will be conducted by M/S Garam Investments Auctioneers and M/S Igare Auctioneers

The Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) has invited the public to the auction of Kalro's boarded assets.

The auction will be conducted by M/S Garam Investments Auctioneers and M/S Igare Auctioneers from May 5 to May 14, 2025.

“The items range from vehicles, laboratory equipment, office equipment, scrap materials, old tyres, used furniture and batteries, among others,” Kalro said.

The auctions will be held from 10 am.

On May 5, the auction will take place at KALRO Headquarters – Loresho, conducted by Igare Auctioneers.

On May 6, it will be held at the Veterinary Research Institute, Muguga, by Garam Investments Auctioneers, and at Food Crops Research Centre, Kabete, by Igare Auctioneers.

On May 7, the auction will take place at the Industrial Crop Research Centre, Mwea, by Igare Auctioneers.

On May 8, it will be held at Food Crops Research Centre, Njoro with Garam Investments Auctioneers, and at Food Crops Research Centre, Embu by Igare Auctioneer.

On May 9, he auction would be held at Horticulture Research Centre, Kibos by Garam Investments Auctioneers and at Agriculture Mechanisation Research Institute – Katumani by Igare Auctioneers.

On May 12, it will be at Non-Ruminant Research Institute, Kakamega, with Garam Investments and at the Arid and Range Lands Research Institute, Kiboko, with Igare Auctioneers.

On May 13, it will be held at the Industrial Crops Research Institute, Mtwapa, by Igare Auctioneers, and on May 14, it will be at the Horticulture Research Centre, Matuga, by Igare Auctioneers.

Prospective bidders are advised to inspect the items on site by arrangement with the respective institute /centre directors during official working hours from 8 am to 4 pm, as the same is not warranted by Kalro or the Auctioneer.

Kalro said the items at the Beef Research Institute, Lanet, will be viewed where they are, but bidding will be done at the Food Crops Research Centre, Njoro.

The items in Kalro Industrial Crop Centre, Molo, will be viewed where they are, but bidding will be done at Kalro Food Crops Research Centre, Njoro.

Additionally, the items in Kalro Beef Research Centre, Mariakani, will be viewed where they are, but bidding will be done at Kalro Industrial Crop Research Institute, Mtwapa.

The institute said a Nissan D/Cabin for Kalro Mtwapa will be viewed at Kalro BIORI Nairobi, but bidding will be done at Kalro Industrial Crop Research Institute, Mtwapa.

A Toyota Prado for Kalro GERRI will be viewed at Kalro BIORI Muguga, but bidding will be done at the VSRI Muguga, Nairobi.

“All intending bidders shall make a refundable Bidding fee of 10 per cent of the reserve price per Lot. Upon Payment, a receipt will be issued and used to obtain a bidding number at the point of registration,” Kalro said.

It added that registration of interested and eligible bidders will be done at least one hour before the start of the auction in the respective Auction Centre.

Further, the reserve price for each Lot will be disclosed during the bidding process, and all the items shall be sold on an “As-is-Where-is” basis at a price not lower than the indicated Reserve Price.

 “At the fall of the Hammer, the highest bidder will be expected to pay at least 25 per cent of the total bid price before being allowed to participate in the next lot. Payment shall be through Pay Bill number (E-citizen) to be provided by the KALRO Auction Centre Cashier,” it added.

Kalro warned that in case the successful bidder fails to pay 25 per cent at the fall of the Hammer, the item shall be sold to the second highest bidder, and the highest bidder shall forfeit the bidding fee to Kalro.

After payment of the 25 per cent, the successful bidder will be required to pay the full balance and collect the item within 14 days.

Those participating in the auction should give their correct names as per their national identity card, since the same names will be used to process all the transactions of the auction.

“After expiry of the collection period 14 days, storage charges of Sh500 shall be charged per day, and in the event the bidder fails to collect the item, 30 days after the required last date of collection, the bidder will forfeit the item to Kalro,” it said.
