Cop arrested for possession of unauthorised firearm in Ruaka

A police officer was arrested after he was found with an unauthorised firearm in Ruaka, Kiambu County.

Police said they recovered a Glock pistol and two rounds of ammunition from the officer in the Friday incident.

Police had been tipped off that a man, believed to be a police officer, was in possession of an unauthorized firearm.

The team behind the arrest lured him to a petrol station after learning he wanted to lease out the weapon.

It was then he was nabbed and later told his colleagues he was attached to Sololo Police Station in Marsabit County.

However, he was unable to provide a credible explanation of how he acquired the firearm in question.

He was placed in custody pending further investigations and possible arraignment, police said.

Meanwhile, police officers from Narok Police Station arrested three suspects linked to a string of robbery with violence incidents in Narok town and its neighboring areas.

The arrest follows a distress call about an ongoing robbery at Total village.

Responding swiftly, the officers established that a three-man gang had stormed a rental building, robbed tenants of their possessions, including mobile phones, laptops, and gas cylinders. In the chaos, one tenant, a third-year student, suffered serious injuries before the gang pulled a disappearing act.

The suspects were cornered and arrested.

Police recovered three Maasai swords from the suspects, confirming their malicious intent, along with two Lenovo laptops, seven mobile phones, and a 6kgs gas cylinder.

Following their arrest, the suspects further led officers to their residence, where additional stolen goods, including assorted electronics, gas cylinders, and Kenya Power meters, were recovered, some of which were positively identified by their rightful owners.

The injured tenant was taken to Maasai Mara University Clinic, where he is receiving treatment and is in stable condition, police said.

The suspects were detained pending arraignment.
