Three minors are fighting for their lives in the hospital after they were injured in a fire incident in the Matopeni area, Kayole, Nairobi.

The fire erupted in their home on Wednesday morning before they were rescued, police said.

The children are aged five, three and nine months.

Police said the children were rushed to Mama Lucy Hospital before being transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital in a serious condition.

This was after locals joined and managed to contain its spread.

It is not clear where the parents of the children were at the time of the fire incident.

The cause of the fire is yet to be known, Nairobi police commander George Sedah said.

He added a team of experts is investigating the incident.

Meanwhile, police are investigating a drowning incident in River Yala, Gem, Siaya County.

The body of one Chrispine Onyango Onyakha, 40 was spotted floating in River Yala within Ugolwe village after he had gone missing for several hours.

The man had a history of cerebral malaria and was receiving medication before he went missing, his family said.

The body with visible slight cuts on the head suspected to have been caused by stones was retrieved and taken to the Yala Level Four Hospital morgue pending autopsy.

In Matuu, Machakos County, one Mulei Malira, 30 was found dead in the Siranga area after a suspected murder.

Police said he was struck on the right side of the head with a stone, which was found next to the body.

A packet of miraa was recovered at the scene. The body was moved to Kitui Level Five Mortuary for an autopsy.

The motive of the murder is yet to be known, police said adding an investigation had been launched.

And two people died by suicide separately in Kisumu’s Dago area and Kayole, Nairobi.

The bodies of the men were moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.

Cases of suicide have been on the rise amid calls to address the trend and in particular the issue of mental health.
