A deal has been reached between Moi University and lecturers union UASU along with the Kenya Universities Staff Union (KUSU) to end a three-month strike that had paralyzed all operations at the university.

Education CS Julius Ogamba will tomorrow (Saturday) witness the signing of a return to work formula between the university and the unions at the main campus.

The university has released a programme for the signing of the return to work deal, after which the CS will announce plans for full resumption of operations at the university, where the workers have been on strike, demanding salary-related dues amounting to more than Sh11 billion.
more than 2,000.

Among the main demands the workers have been seeking is the release of Sh5.5 billion for their pension scheme and another Sh1.4 billion for payment of bank loans.

UASU Chapter Secretary at the university, Ojuki Nyabuta, confirmed that they were meeting with the university management with the possibility of signing the return to work deal.

“We are in talks and hope to arrive at a deal if or demands are met," Ojuki said earlier.

The unions and the university management have engaged in the negotiations the whole of this week and are burning the midnight oil to ensure all issues are sorted out before the deal is signed on Saturday.

National officials of the two unions have also been invited to attend the signing ceremony.

Details of the deal will be revealed at the signing ceremony, but sources indicate that the government has provided funding for the university to resume normalcy.

This comes even as EACC has already opened investigations against the Vice Chancellor, Professor Isaac Kosgey, three senior staff members, and four council members over allegations of graft.

All of them have already been grilled and recoded statements as part of the probe.
