Africa's 100m fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala shook off his Paris Olympics disappointment with a blazing 9.88 seconds finish to secure second place at the Silesia Diamond League on Sunday. 

Omanyala was edged out by USA's Fred Kerley, who set a meet record of 9.87 seconds while Jamaica's Ackeem Blake took third in 9.89 seconds.

At the Olympics, Omanyala missed out on a slot in the finals after placing second last in his semifinal heat with a time of 10.08.

In other action, Nelly Chepchirchir stormed to a world-leading time of 2:31.24 in the women's 1,000m, outpacing Britain's Jemma Reekie (2:32.56) and Olympic 800m champion Mary Moraa (2:33.43).

Moraa was coming off a victory at the Lausanne Diamond League on Friday, where she won the women's 800m in 1:57.91, beating the British duo of Georgia Bell (1:58.53) and Jemma Reekie (1:58.73).

In a post-race interview, Moraa admitted she hadn't been fully prepared due to her recent commitments at the Paris Olympics.

"I hadn't trained enough. My manager informed me I'd be competing at the Lausanne Diamond League and I accepted. I'm pleased with my performance," she said.
