Glovo has launched a nationwide initiative to assist couriers affected by recent floods in Kenya.

In the initiative, the company has disbursed over Sh500,000 through a Crisis Relief Fund to provide financial aid to couriers who reported losses due to the severe weather conditions.

Couriers submitted applications outlining the impact of the floods on their livelihoods, and funds were distributed based on the severity of their reported losses.

Glovo General Manager for Kenya Caroline Mutuku, said that the relief fund is our way of supporting the couriers and ensuring they can continue their work

“Our ability to deliver what our customers need is largely due to the hard work and dedication of the couriers who operate within our ecosystem. They are the backbone of our operations,” said Caroline Mutuku.

The financial support is intended to help couriers address immediate needs, such as repairing damaged property or replacing essential items.

Funds were allocated based on the severity of the losses described in the couriers’ applications.

Couriers have the freedom to use the funds to address their specific needs, whether it’s repairing property, replacing essential items, or other critical requirements due to the floods.

Glovo officials emphasized the company's commitment to supporting its couriers during times of crisis and ensuring their continued ability to work effectively in Kenya.

“The Crisis Relief Fund shows how Glovo is making a real difference in the lives of couriers and the communities we operate in. For us, impact and sustainability mean supporting the economic and social well-being of couriers in our ecosystem.”

“We understand the challenges couriers face during this tough time, and we hope this initiative helps them rebuild and recover,” said Glovo impact and sustainability Africa lead Daphne Kabeberi.
