Crime scene.

Residents of Soysambu in Gilgil are trying to come to terms with the murder of a man whose throat was slit and body dumped on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.

It’s suspected the man, who appeared to be in his mid-30s, was murdered elsewhere.

In the last couple of years, sections of the busy highway have been used as dumping sites for bodies.

Community leader John Kuria said a group of herders spotted the body and informed residents.

He said the victim’s throat had a deep cut and the head was nearly falling off.

“The man does not hail from this area and from the look of things, it’s evident he was murdered elsewhere and the body ferried here,” Kuria said.

A senior police officer, who declined to be named, said the body was taken to Gilgil Subcounty Hospital mortuary.

“He did not have any identification documents and investigating officers have collected the fingerprints and sent them to the registrar of persons for identification,” the officer said.

Since the year started, at least 10 bodies have been found dumped along the highway and on the Naivasha-Mai Mahiu road.

In most cases, the victims were men who were murdered through strangulation, slitting of throats or bludgeoned on the back of the head using blunt objects.
