Kodero Bara High School’s football team will represent Migori County at the Nyanza Region Secondary Schools Sports Association Term Two games to be held in Kisii next month.
Kodero Bara booked their slot at the regionals on Tuesday after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Korwa. The game was played at Isebania KRA grounds.
The game was supposed to be played on Saturday but was postponed after fans refused to leave the pitch at Kubweye Mixed Secondary School in Mabera Sub-County.
In Tuesday’s final, Felix Casilas scored the all-important goal to send Kodero Bara to the regionals. The regionals will be held at Kisii School and Cardinal Otunga High School, Mosocho from July 9 to 13.
Kodero Bara coach Jacob Aloo said that Kosero Bara is ready to go for the regional and national titles.
“Our objective is to represent Kenya at the East Africa Secondary Schools Championships in Uganda,” said Aloo. He added that he is not afraid of regular campaigners at the regionals.
“Last year, Agoro Sare upset the formbook to win the regional title. I believe we can also do it. We have prepared well for the regional championships,” said Aloo.
He admitted that the Migori County Championship was not a walk in the park. “We played against very good teams. I believe this has given us good preparations for the regional competition,” he noted.
Other schools that will represent Migori County at the regional championships are Oyugi Ogango (netball), Sagegi Mixed (volleyball boys), Kameji (girls' volleyball), Migori Education Center (soccer girls) Friends School Anjego and St Joseph’s Rapogi (rugby 7s), Anjego and Kamagambo Day (girls’ rugby 7s).
Anjego principal and coach JJ Masime has dared rivals ahead of the regional showpiece. He says his target is to reach the regional finals.
He, however, expressed concern about the standards of the game in Migori County after thrashing St Joseph’s Rapogi 60-0 to lift the title.
“To be honest, our standards in Migori are down. I didn’t expect a 60-0 win against Rapogi in the final,” said Masime.
He added: “We need to improve ahead of regional championships, where we expect stiff competition from schools like Kisii, Yala and Maseno among others. Our target is to play at the nationals and if possible the East Africa Games.”
