Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale on Monday flagged off the first group of 300 Hajj pilgrims to Saudi Arabia.

The ceremony was held at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

According to Duale, 3,300 Kenyan pilgrims will be heading to Mecca in phased travel plan.

"This morning at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Nairobi, I flagged off the first group of 300 Hajj pilgrims heading to Saudi Arabia" Duale said through his X handle.

Duale expressed his gratitude to various entities for their collaboration in ensuring a smooth travel process for the pilgrims

He thanked the government for facilitating passport applications and issuance through the State Department of Immigration.

He further thanked the Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) and the Saudi Embassy in Kenya for ensuring timely issuance of Hajj visas.

Present during the flag off include Supkem chairman Hassan Ole Nado and the Saudi Deputy Ambassador to Kenya, Nassir Alfuraidy.
