Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has asked Rift Valley leaders to keep off Mt Kenya politics saying it is too complicated for them to handle.

The DP, who was speaking during fundraising for a women empowerment program in Kesses, Uasin Gishu, accused a section of leaders of scheming to determine who the next leaders would be in Mt Kenya.

But in an apparent warning to the leaders, the DP said their bid is an exercise in futility as the Mt Kenya politics is more complex than they think.

"Mimi naomba watu wa bonde la ufa, tafadhali, sisi tuliunga Rais mkono kwa hiari yetu na kwa kupenda na tunaendelea kumuunga mkono. Tunaomba heshima kidogo, msijaribu kutupangia siasa ya Mlima Kenya na kuptupangia uongozi," Gachagua said.

This loosely translates to: " I want to request the Rift Valley leaders to note that we supported the President willingly because we loved doing so and we will continue doing so. But we ask for respect; don't dare plan the politics of Mt Kenya and its leadership".

Gachagua said the Rift Valley leaders should focus on their region's politics instead of Mt Kenya adding that they will never contemplate choosing leaders for the region.

The DP asked the Rift Valley leaders to focus on helping President William Ruto to deliver on his campaign promises saying continuous politicking would turn him into a failure.

He faulted a group of leaders from the region and Mty Kenya for scheming to succeed the President instead of focusing on helping him deliver.

"Choosing a leader is one thing and succeeding is the difficult part. As the principal assistant of the president, my duty is to ensure he succeeds. That is my focus for now," he said.

Gachagua asked leaders to stop what he termed as political tourism and focus on developing the areas they were elected to serve.

He at the same time faulted a section of leaders close to the President for sowing discourse in the Mt Kenya region.

The DP said the leaders have teamed up with youthful leaders from the Mt Kenya region to scheme to take power.

"The problem is a few leaders from this region (Rift Valley) who have proximity to the president ndo wanakoroga siasa ya huko kwetu, kudanganya watu waanze kupanga mambo ya 2032. That is the problem there," Gachagua said.
