Ruto to meet former US President Obama in his US tour

President William Ruto will have a meeting with former US President Barack Obama on Thursday (today).

The meeting will come ahead of the official state reception by President Joe Biden at the White House.

Obama who was the 44th President of the United States was born of a Kenyan father.

He previous made visits to Kenya while he served as Senator and later on as President of the US.

His last visit to Kenya was in July 2018, after he had stepped down as POTUS, following Donald Trump's victory over Hillary Clinton.

On Wednesday, President Ruto visited the White House in an initial meeting where he was received by President Joe Biden.

During the visit, Biden hosted Ruto for a roundtable on technology as they also engaged on other bilateral and multilateral issues of concern.

Ruto and First Lady Mama Rachel later on laid a wreath at Arlington National Cemetery in the United States.

The wreath is to honour the sacrifices of American Soldiers as well as historic figures in the US, such as Thurgood Marshall and John F. Kennedy who had a profound impact on Kenya's history.

In their Thursday meeting, Biden and Ruto, together with their delegations will further engage in Kenya-US economic, health and security partnership.

They will also discuss regional developments in Africa.

Ruto will later on deliver a keynote speech on shared climate solutions at the Smithsonian, discussing global environmental challenges and collaborative efforts to address them.

The day will culminate with a state dinner at the White House.
