Residents of Kugeria Estate off Kiambu Road are fearful of the health risk posed to them after raw sewage from a nearby estate overflowed into their homes.

According to the residents, it is unfortunate that the effluent is emanating from the estate.

They say the management is adamant about taking responsibility and defending that it is not raw sewage but stormwater.

Frank Kamau, a resident whose over three acres is covered by foul-smelling sewage water, said that the area has never flooded, even during the heavy rains experienced in the country.

Kamau said they traced the source of the overflowing sewage to a septic tank in the estate and reported the matter to the estate management.

They claim they have reported to Nema but have yet to get a concrete response.

Charles Juma, a farmhand who was rearing chickens, goats, and cows, said they had to sell the livestock at a throwaway price since their stay was fully submerged, including the land where they had planted crops and napier grass.

Patricia Mbugua, another resident, said that the sewage water is flowing inside their homesteads and has since found its way into the main water supply.

Wycliff Obukala, a farmer in the area, said that the sewage water has entered the boreholes in the area and has since covered the maize, beans, and other crops he had planted.

The residents have called upon the government to take action and remove the sewage water to avoid a cholera outbreak in the area.
