The Sh588milliom graft case facing former Kiambu County Chief Ferdinand Waititu, his wife Susan Wangari and others proceeds today for hearing.

The prosecution closed its case last year after calling 32 witnesses.

Anti-Corruption Magistrate Thomas Nzyuki found the accused persons had a case to answer and subsequently placed them on their defense.

Waititu and the team are currently at the stage of defending themselves from the graft charges levelled against them.

On Wednesday, Waititu told the court that he is innocent and should be acquitted.

He claimed that the charges were instituted because of his overwhelming support for President William Ruto during the 2022 succession politics.

The court heard that when the politics of Tanga Tanga started, he was one of the major proponents in Kiambu.

He claimed because of his support for Ruto, the then ruling class engineered his arrest and subsequent charging in court.

"I supported the President so much. At the time he was the deputy president. I was sacrificed in a wider political war linked to the 2022 succession politics," he said.

He further states that the graft case was levelled against him so that he could be hounded out of office.

"It was a scheme. This was a political witchunt. The case was started to hound me out of office," he said.

Drumvale Farmers Cooperative Society case

Six people are to be charged afresh with conspiring to defraud Drumvale Farmers Cooperative Society land in Mavoko worth Sh11 billion.

They will plead to the charges afresh after the matter was consolidated with another similar case.

Jeremiah Mutisyah Paul, Mohamed Kuroyow Mohamed, Mohamed Salat Ibrahim, Omar Khalif Adan, Adow Ahmed Mohamed and Joseph Njue are accused of conspiring to defraud Drumvale of their parcels of land Mavoko block 12 original number 8529/1 measuring approximately 452.0 hectares.

The six are alleged to have committed the offense at unknown place and time within the Republic of Kenya, jointly with others not before court.

Mohamed, Ibrahim, Adan and Adow are also accused of obtaining registration of the said land by false pretenses.
