Oil tycoon Yagnesh Devani on Monday failed to appear in court yet again for the mention of a case in which he has been charged with stealing Sh1.5 billion jet fuel belonging to Kenya Commercial Bank.

Devani was early this year charged with stealing 318,665 tonnes of jet fuel valued at Sh1.5 billion.

He denied the charges and was released on a cash bail of Sh1 million.

The matter had been listed for mention before Milimani Magistrate Robinson Ondieki but Devani was a no-show.

His advocate did not reveal his whereabouts but informed the court that he had filed an application to have his client excused from attending court mentions.

He did not explain Devani's reason for not attending court.

But the DPP through prosecutor Eliphas Ombati said they are yet to be served with the said application to which the court directed it be served ahead of the hearing on April 29, 2024.

The last time the matter was in court, a warrant of arrest had been issued against Devani.

At that time, he was also expected to appear for a mention of his case so as to confirm whether he had been supplied with documentary evidence before the trial commences.

But Devani never showed up.
