Thugs attack guard, vandalise KPLC transformer in Machakos

Police are investigating an incident where thugs attacked a night guard before vandalising a transformer in Matungulu, Machakos County.

The armed gangsters are said to have tied Ezekiel Munyau, 53, who was on duty during the incident before disappearing with the transformer parts, property of the Kenya Power and Lighting Company Ltd.

The early Friday morning incident happened a few metres from Tala police station within the Matungulu subcounty.

Matungulu subcounty police commander Peter Omondi said the incident happened at 2.00am.

"Unknown people ambushed and tied the watchman with ropes and brought down the transformer, then vandalised it," Omondi told the Star by phone on Saturday.

Omondi said the watchman was, however, not injured during the incident. He was found still tied with the ropes on Friday.

He said officers from both the Kenya Police Service and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations attached to Tala police station visited the scene and processed it.

They found the vandalised transformer at the scene when they visited it.

No suspect had been arrested by press time.

"The case is under investigation," Omondi said.
