I'm deeply saddened! Kalonzo mourns June Moi

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has joined a growing list of leaders in condoling with the family of former President Daniel Moi following the death of daughter June Chebet.

The family said June, 60, died on the morning of Thursday, April 11, 2024.

“At this time of grief, we request your prayers and privacy as we the family come to terms with the tragic loss of our sister. May her soul rest in eternal peace,” the family said in a statement.

In his message of comfort conveyed on behalf of his wife Pauline and the entire family, Kalonzo said he was deeply saddened by the passing of June whom she described as a sister.

“Please know that you are in my prayers and thoughts at this most difficult and trying time for your family,” the message relayed via Senator Gideon Moi said.

“May our Good Lord give you the necessary fortitude to bear the loss of our sister June, and may He rest her soul in everlasting peace.”

June was the last-born daughter among the former president's eight children.

She was adopted by Moi and cared for as part of the family.

Chebet and Gideon were the late president’s favourite children.

In his message of condolence, President William Ruto wished the Moi family God’s strength as they go through the difficult time.

Cabinet Secretary for MSME Development Simon Chelugui also condoled with the family.

He expressed sadness at June’s demise and mourned her as a wonderful lady and a patriot.

“My heart and prayers go out to the Moi family, friends and relatives during this time of grief,” Chelugui said.
