A former manager of the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation has been charged with forging academic papers to secure the job.

Noah Okech Oluoch pleaded not guilty to three counts of forgery before Milimani anti-corruption chief magistrate Thomas Nzyoki.

He was charged with fraudulently acquiring salary and allowance amounting to Sh1445066 from the agency having been employed using a forged degree certificate.

The charge sheet showed he had forged a master's degree in business administration and finance from the University of Nairobi.

The magistrate granted the accused a Sh1 million bond with an alternative bail of Sh500,000. He was also ordered to surrender his passport to court within seven days.

In the same court, Philip Mutua Kilonzo was charged with requesting and obtaining a bribe of Sh2.9 million from a children's home in order to influence the writing off of alleged taxes due to the Kenya Revenue Authority.

He faced another count of obtaining money by false pretence from Grace Children's Home.

Mutua denied both counts and was granted a Sh1 million bond with and alternative bail of Sh700000.

Both cases were fixed for Pre-trial hearings on April 17.
